N900 and Google Voice

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

I really had a difficult time with Google Voice Plugin for conversations and contacts.

Problems:
1. From conversations app, “send IM to” I cannot pick Google Voice from the IM account list, even if I configured GV correctly (saying “signed in”) in my VOIP and IM Accounts. So I cannot use GV IM/SMS

2. From Phone app/dialpad, after entering the number I want to reach, and select call type to be GV, I got “Internet Connection Required”. I tested with both WIFI and tmobile 3g and internet is working OK (with Onion Tor Routing enabled) and I can dial out using Skypw with no issues at all.

3. From system contacts, I have Call/IM/SMS thru GV, but all complains about “Internet Connection Required”, the same above.

4. In Wifi, I can get DialCentral to work. But not with my 3g. DialCentral always says “https://www.google.com/voice/m is not accessible” instead of log me in. I cannot use DailCentral in 3g.

So I end up not being able to use The One Ring both WIFI and 3g, and not being able to use DialCentral if in 3g.

Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

wordpress app in nokia n900

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

cannot upload any images. hanging there to load images…

still a buggy app. cannot upload images.

worst of all, it deletes ur posts without any confirmations or warnings. my suggestion: avoid using it.

it’s a shame that n900 has only those crappy apps and maemo select apps page has only 5 pages of apps without even a search function. compare with apple, nokia doesnot know a damn thing about how to attact customers. n900 is ok, but who will buy it without apps???

N900 tips: how to activate scim-googlepinyin?

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

You installed it, but just could not make it work.

Trick: check if there’s a file called /etc/event.d/scim; If yes, just delete it. Wola, after that, CTL+SPACE, you’ll see Chinese characters prompted.

Nokia N900: A Bike Dashboard?

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Look at this:

Nokia N900 Becomes A Bike Dashboard

Bike Dashboard is a N900 device turned bicycle computer mounted on the handlebar of a bike with a number of sensors and features such as displaying speed, mapped routes with GPS, distance traveled, bike’s light control and even a horn.

Nokia N900

Ended up buying it and try to see if I can integrate it with Google contacts, voice and maps. I am also trying to buy a data only plan to play with it.

I’d appreciate any inputs you might have on the above topics.

BTW, when you bought stuff from dell.com(small business), did Dell charge you a tax when you bought your N900 there online? I was surprised they did charge tax this time… They did not do this before ( a friend of mine confirmed this but he bought studd from Dell about a year ago; Dell.com used to have legal issues regarding taxes collection for online orders), neither does Amazon.com.

Sent an email to Dell, they automate the response saying they collect taxes for all states. In receipt it was noted as IVR??? What’s that?

By the way, talking about the shopping experience online with dell.com. Surprisedly they only give you one chance to view the receipt, once you passed that page, you have nowhere to find a complete receipt! It took minutes, not seconds, for online order to show up in order history. You HAVE TO add your email again to ask them to notify you if they start shipping your phone.(I was a registered user with email address as log in. Did you hear me, Dell.com?)

They did not automatically sent you an email right after the order. I have to manually input my email address to send the order confirmation page to my email address.

All in all, I like Amazon way better. I bought lots of stuff from Amazon.com and took for granted that I can always get my complete receipt any time, and that I should get a confirmation email the minute I placed the order. But all those do not happen at dell.com.

Just a surprise to me as dell.com only deal with online orders. They have to do something to keep up with other e-commerce web sites.

Ebay ProStores: how about one-month free trial?

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Ebay’s ProStores is an e-commerce website hosting company owned by eBay. Formerly known as Kurant StoreSense, ProStores was acquired by eBay Inc. by the end of 2004 changing the name to ProStores by eBay.

ProStores’ feature set ranges from simple wizard-driven website and e-commerce capabilities to sophisticated site design tools, advanced e-commerce functionality and high-end e-business management. In addition, smaller merchants can also manage the entire process of posting and selling products on eBay using the interface they use to manage their online ProStores. ProStores also provides merchants with the tools to better reach and retain customers with the support of several popular online shopping search engines, including Google Base, Yahoo Shopping, Shopping.com. It also offers inventory management, supplier communication and integration with Quickbooks and Dreamweaver.

This is a good place to test water in eBay. Good news is, they are now offering
One Month Free Trial! at ProStores. Take this opportunity and see what you can get from eBay and report to us as comments in this blog.

How to enable Eclipse/Glassfish remote debugging

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

You would normally enable jdb by adding debug options into your Java start up command by attaching debugging into JVM process, like the following:

DEBUG_OPTS=”-Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport= dt_socket,address=1044,server=y,suspend
=n”

You would consider adding this into your Glassfish’s(V2, in my case) start up script asadmin as below:

“$AS_JAVA”/bin/java “$DEBUG_OPTS” -Dcom.sun.aas.instanceName=server -Djava.libra
ry.path=”$AS_NSS”:”$AS_INSTALL/lib”:”$AS_ICU_LIB” -Dcom.sun.aas.configRoot=”$AS_
CONFIG” -Djava.endorsed.dirs=”$AS_INSTALL/lib/endorsed” -Dcom.sun.aas.processLau
ncher=”SE” -cp “$AS_DERBY_INSTALL/lib/derby.jar”:”$AS_INSTALL/jbi/lib/jbi-admin-
cli.jar”:”$AS_INSTALL/jbi/lib/jbi-admin-common.jar”:”$AS_INSTALL/lib”:”$AS_INSTA
LL/lib/appserv-rt.jar”:”$AS_INSTALL/lib/appserv-ext.jar”:”$AS_INSTALL/lib/javaee
.jar”:”$AS_INSTALL/lib/appserv-se.jar”:”$AS_INSTALL/lib/admin-cli.jar”:”$AS_INST
ALL/lib/appserv-admin.jar”:”$AS_INSTALL/lib/commons-launcher.jar”:”$AS_INSTALL/l
ib/install/applications/jmsra/imqjmsra.jar” -Dcom.sun.appserv.admin.pluggable.fe
atures=com.sun.enterprise.ee.admin.pluggable.EEClientPluggableFeatureImpl com.su
n.enterprise.cli.framework.CLIMain “${@}”

Actually this will not work.

You have to log into the Glassfish admin console, under:

Application server

JVM General Settings

Debug
Enabled (check it)

Hit save

Restart Glassfish.

You’ll see Glassfish start up script spits the following message:

Listening for transport dt_socket at address: 9009
Application server is listening at address 9009 for debugger to attach using transport dt_socket

It started to listen at port 9009 by default instead of 1044.

You’ll configure your Eclipse accordingly to do remote debugging. Remember the port number 9009 instead of 1044.
