I just heard about Palm Pre this afternoon on my way home through NPR. It loks like finally we got a competitor for IPhones. Palm is a great company who invented Palm Pocket PC or Parl Pilot.
I hope to buy an iPhone before but the subscription is a little bit expensice. Palm Pre is to be 30 dollars less than iPhone’s AT&T service through Sprint.
According to news, the next version of iPhone will get much cheaper.
The Palm Pre Difference:
* Pre will let customers run multiple applications simultaneously (rather than having to switch from one to the other).
* The Palm Pre WebOS is based on Webkit. This will not only put it on a par with iPhone’s touch screen, but give it the ability to run Web applications richly, which is a key element of the user experience.
* More importantly, supporting Webkit (and HTML 5) means that Palm can attract huge numbers of developers to create applications for the Pre — which is ultimately the life blood of any connected device.
The current smartphone market:
the iPhone;
Google (NSDQ: GOOG) says 18 new smartphones with Android OS will be shipped this year;
Nokia is pushing the E71x and the N97 (for which it has no carrier for the time being), and of course,
Research in Motion remains a dominant force in the market as well.
